Sonar invited them again during its 2008 edition.

Thanks to Ali Demirel, who controls all the visuals for the set, I was given a chance to experience the joy of an enormous crowd (around 6 thousand people) dancing for 5 hours to minimal techno and enjoying realtime visuals. This would be cool on its own, but if you are also controling part of the visuals while people go crazy to them, its awesome! The set started at 2am, finished and 7am… And our massive open air dance floor was completelly full the whole time!

L’Andy ha aconsegiut que li deixin una càmera Gigabit Ehternet que permet capturar 30 fps a FullHD (1920 x 1080p). Només funciona sobre windows, així que he desenvolupat “a cegues” una versió d’Still sobre windows per aquesta càmera. Encara no l’he vista funcionar, ja que la càmera és a fabrica, i el procés de desenvolupament ha consistit en creació d’executables a Barcelona (per part meva), i testeig+feedback a Treviso (thanks Jackee). Per ara tenim una versió en blanc i negre que sembla que funciona de meravella.

Ho trobo brutal, un exemple del que es pot fer amb sèries de fotografies noctures. La referència a koyanisqaatsi és inevitable. I tinc ganes de fer alguna cosa similar a diversos punts de Barcelona.

L’aventatge de fer vídeo amb una càmera fotogràfica és que permet treballar a ressolucions 1080p o superiors. Tinc unes ganes de veure què tal es veu a la tele nova q tenim a casa….

Oh, and the face detection thing turns out to be quite hard, my first approaches trying to discriminate know faces from unknown ones doesn’t really work that well…

The plan (for now) is to make a system that stores all recognized faces, and is smart enough to not store faces from people who is already in the DB…. Quick and dirty morphological methods are not robust at all, so I think i’ll start looking into eigenfaces tomorrow… It’s quite ugly stuff, but luckily I had to deal with it already at uni.

Això, juntament amb el video de l’arbre paramètric i el de les roques, són treballs que estic fent per Vicente Guallart.

Aquest estudi d’arquitectura prepara una mostra a l’IVAM (Institut Valencià d’Art Modern) on es poden veure els seus treballs més destacables. Per més info sobre la mostra, podeu mirar el blog o aquí.

I ara, una mica de rotllo per explicar de què va el tema…

La simulación contiene tres tipos de elementos; Viviendas, Equipamientos y Personas.

Las viviendas y los equipamientos están representados por las letras que forman las palabras “VALENTIA” y “EDETANORUM”. Se han escogido las consonantes como viviendas, y las vocales como equipamientos. Las vocales aparecen en negro con un reborde blanco para distinguirlas mejor de las consonantes, que se muestran en blanco con reborde negro.
Ambos tipos de estructura se reparten en el espacio de manera semi-aleatoria; controlados por una simple norma; la distancia mínima entre ellos esta fijada. De esta manera se consigue que las estructuras no estén demasiado cercanas entre si.

En la simulación hay un número de personas preestablecido, repartidas aleatoriamente entre los viviendas. Cada individuo tienen un posible rango de edades, que se visualizan mediante el tamaño y el color. Los individuos pueden mostrar dos posibles escalas de color, amarillo-rojo o verde-azul. El color exacto dentro de cada gama viene dictado por su edad, de manera que los individuos jóvenes se muestran de tamaño más pequeño y de color amarillo (o verde), y los individuos de edad más avanzada se muestran de color rojo (o azul). La velocidad en la que se desplaza cada ente viene ligada a su edad, y al terreno por el que se desplaza. Dado que contamos con la topografía de la muralla, es posible determinar su gradiente en un punto concreto. Esta información se ha tenido en cuenta en la simulación, e influye en la velocidad de los desplacamientos. Si un individuo está avanzando “cuesta arriba” lo hará más lentamente que si lo hace “cuesta abajo”.

Las dos gamas de colores de los individuos indican hacia donde se dirige el mismo. Si éste se dirige o hacia un equipamiento o está volviendo a su casa, su gama de color será amarillo-rojo. Si se dispone a visitar a un conocido (se dirige hacia una vivienda que no  es la suya) su gama de colores irá de verde a azul.

La simulación muestra un día completo en esta urbe artificial, comenzando por las horas de madrugada y enlazando con la siguiente madrugada. Al inicio del día el tránsito es más reducido, y es en su mayoría para visitar equipamientos. A medida que avanza el día se intensifica el tránsito de individuos, hasta que llega la noche y éste es constituido  en su mayoría por individuos que visitan la vivienda de otros individuos. A medida que termina el día el tráfico disminuye hasta desaparecer totalmente.

La idea es explicar la filosofia de l’estudi sobre la muralla. Primer geografia; la muralla en si. Després anàlisi, on he programat una mena de fals escàner que projecta una triangulació sobre la muralla que va guanyant en resolució en el temps. I la part final, consisteix en definir un joc de regles i aplicar-les. Una de les propostes es col·locar éssers vius (virtuals) sobre la muralla, de manera que s’hi desplacin com ho farien si fossin de debò. Per ara, estic treballant sobre una colònia de formigues, amb els seus nius i les seves fonts d’aliment.

Els punts vermells són els formiguers; els verds són aliment, i els traços blaus són les formigues que es mouen tot seguint les regles que dicta el relleu de la muralla.
