World Time Installation

Produced a set of 14 DVD’s for an exhibit planned by the Thailand Ministry of Science and Technology (see here), 12 hours long each. My friend Ann is responsible of big part of the show. The installation consists of a huge world map together with its timezones, and 11 screens placed on random timezones. Each of the screens displays a video feed  for a certain timezone. The video feed is built out of internet webcam images taken at short intervals during the 12 hours that correspond to the exhibit’s local time in Bangkok. A custom software was developed to download the images for each dvd at the proper times, as well as a software to build the movies into a length of exactly 12 hours. The movies were made out of a random number of images (each internet webcam has its own refresh rate), so “local looping” of the images was required to achieve a “video feed” look.

Example of time-lapse in NewYork’s Times Square. This is 12 hours in 12 seconds.
